THE CITY

The place chosen for the location of CITeS could not be another one but the city of Avila.

The city has all the necessary characteristics to constitute the perfect frame for a center with such needs:

it is the natal city of Saint Therese of Jesus
in its province John of the Cross was also born
the great historic-artistic patrimony it conserves inside and outside its walls
its tranquility
its closeness to Madrid
and its privileged location in the Spanish frame

The City of Avila is striving to be recognized as City of Mystic and as such is already recognized in many corners of the world.

Everything in Avila reminds us of the footsteps of two great mystics of Christianity. Its millenary stones and its centennial buildings, together with its great walls, evoke the figure of Therese and John. Its streets and passages invite us to enter the fantastic world of mystical experiences

THE BUILDING

The space currently occupied by CITeS has, besides a privileged symbolic value: in the convent built over the solar of the Saint’s natal home

The Center offers lodging to the religious persons of the Order so that they may participate in the course, even though space is limited.

Resides the classrooms, we have tow halls for common use of all the students:

reading hall, where all material for immediate consultation is found, dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, etc. ...
magazine hall, another privileged place for study and consultation of more than 30 specialized periodical magazines which the Center has placed for disposition of its students and investigators

The LIBRARY is of great importance. It already has more than 15,000 volumes specialized in the study areas privileged by the Center, mainly in the spirituality and mystic of Saint John and Saint Therese.

In accordance with the current needs, the Center places in disposition of the students a computer room where they can accomplish their work and facilitate access to INTERNET.
